FEDERAL PROTECTIVE SERVICE
DHS is committed to giving our returning veterans every opportunity to transition smoothly to a satisfying career. The Federal Protective Service is currently hiring 150 new Physical Security Specialists (Inspectors) at the GS-7/9 level with promotion opportunity to GS 12. These inspectors become federal law enforcement officers after a 16 week course of instruction at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glenco GA. These inspectors are not guards. They perform vulnerability assessments on federal buildings, make sure that countermeasures are working effectively and respond to crimes/incidents on federal property. FPS would like to hire as many transitioning VRA eligible Marines at the CLNC career fair as possible.
FPS will have available at the Job Fair 2 recruiters, 4 interviewers and 4 HR specialists to conduct the certification, interview and selection of VRA eligible Marines.
In order to be interviewed a candidate will need a resume with sufficient security experience. All of your combat arms Marines should be able to
easily translate all of their security duties they did in Iraq or Afghanistan into security duties. They should also put down any experience they had as a supervisor (i.e. Squad leader in charge of 11 other Marines providing physical security to the forward operating base, etc). Also any threat or vulnerability assessments they were responsible for doing (i.e. as the senior man of an 11 man squad, I was responsible to look for vulnerabilities to the FOB perimeter and make immediate changes or recommendations to improve over all physical security, etc). These are just a couple of examples.
Secondly job candidates will need the statement of service letters. I was glad to hear that you think these can be readily obtained prior to the
hiring event. The letter must include the soldier's EOS date, character of service (honorable) and the VRA qualifying campaign or expeditionary medal
(i.e. OIF service medal etc.)
FPS will most likely have estimated 6 uniformed officers from Atlanta office who can act as recruiters and interviewers and up to four HR specialists to certify the candidates for the position based on resume and VRA eligibility. If the candidate certifies and has a successful interview, we should be able to offer a tentative selection letter on the spot.
For information purposes it takes 45-60 days for the selectees to be processed for a background investigation and physical. FPS has two classes
to fill: one at the end of August and the other the first week of September.
