The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) is a volunteer, non-profit fire rescue and EMS department in Montgomery County, Maryland, serving Burtonsville, Silver Spring and the surrounding communities. Firefighter: explore firefighting with free training to do it safely. Firefighters are certified in both firefighting and EMT; BVFD helps members with existing out-of-area certifications get Maryland reciprocity.

Requirements

All applicants must:
– Be at least 18 years old (16 with parental consent)
– Have a high school diploma or equivalent
– Be able to pass Federal and State background investigations
– Be willing to commit at least two years to volunteering
– Be able to pass the County physical
– Complete over 160 hours of classroom and online training (training sites in Rockville and College Park)
– Serve at least one duty night per week (7pm-7am); Live-In members serve four
